Six Months of War. Still No Vote. The House Just Said Pull Out.
Late Tuesday the House passed H.Con.Res. 93, 220–204, directing the President to remove U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran unless Congress authorizes the war. Seven Republicans crossed over, including Massie. It is the third House war-powers vote of this conflict.
Congress never declared this war. There is no specific AUMF against Iran. Six months in, more than 50,000 American troops are still in theater, oil is still choked, and the White House has treated concurrent resolutions as optional paperwork.
War powers are not a partisan hobby. They are the constitutional brake: the people who get drafted and taxed get a say before the shooting starts, not a press conference after. A concurrent resolution may be weak law. Ignoring Congress forever is weaker constitutional practice.
The Senate has agreed to vote a prior House war-powers measure by October 2. Watch that calendar. If the executive can run a multi-month war on vibes and oil prices, the War Powers Resolution is a museum piece.
