Starting January 1, 2026, the $200 National Firearms Act tax stamp on suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns, and "Any Other Weapons" has been eliminated, dropping to $0.

The change came through the reconciliation bill signed by President Trump on July 4, 2025. On the first day the $0 tax took effect, approximately 150,000 applications were filed through the ATF's electronic system in just 24 hours.

While the NFA's registration requirements, background checks, and approval process remain in place, removing the $200 financial barrier marks the most significant change to suppressor regulation in nearly a century. The tax stamp for machine guns and destructive devices remains at $200.
