Florida Didn’t Abolish Property Taxes — It Put a Homestead Cut on the Ballot
A viral X post is circulating that Florida “approved the ABOLITION of statewide PROPERTY TAXES.” That headline skips the hard part. In the June 2026 special session the Legislature passed HJR 1-F — Amendment 3 for the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot. Current property-tax law stays until voters approve it by 60%.
What the measure actually does: raise the non-school homestead exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028 (CPI thereafter)
